Restaurant Hansen, located in the basement of the Vienna Stock Exchange building, is known for its Mediterranean and international cuisine. It was opened on 16 April 1998 by Anita and Leo Doppler, who have been running the restaurant with great attention to detail and passion ever since.
The historic ambience of the restaurant, with its view of lush green plants, terracotta and a variety of decorative objects, creates a unique atmosphere. The Vienna Stock Exchange building on Schottenring with its brick-red façade, built between 1871 and 1877 by the Danish architect Theophil von Hansen, is one of the important monumental buildings on the world-famous Ringstrasse.
One of the most magnificent buildings along Vienna's Ringstrasse, the former stock exchange building ("Börse Wien"), houses our restaurant in the light-flooded basement. The brick-red building in the style of historicism was designed by the famous architect Theophil von Hansen. It is also the reason for our name - and for the incomparable atmosphere that surrounds you here.
This is how exciting the day can start. With fresh juices, vitamin drinks and of course the classics made with eggs, ham or bacon.
When the chefs are at work, there are not only scents and aromas in the air, but also inspiration and passion. The Mediterranean, light cuisine line with regionally influenced dishes will delight your palate.

Concept
The series shows topographically precise large-format photographs of Venetian cityscapes painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal (known as Canaletto) and his contemporaries in the 18th century.
Historical image structures are taken up and transferred into a contemporary context. Venice is an exception in the midst of urban change processes: the architectural structure has largely been preserved - squares, façades and visual axes are almost identical to the historical views of Canaletto. What has changed is life in the picture.
It is not the architecture, but the people and their presence that mark the temporal distance.
About the artist
